A reverse-cycle air conditioner can provide heating as well as cooling, but the correct function depends on the installed model. This tutorial helps you practise ordinary heating operation before relying on the system on a cold evening.

Before you start
Confirm from the equipment paperwork that the unit is reverse-cycle. A heat symbol on a replacement handset does not establish that the air conditioner has heating capability.
Step-by-step tutorial
- Find the correct mode. Use the model manual to identify HEAT. Do not confuse a mode selection with the automatic fan-speed setting.
- Review the room settings. Choose the occupied room or intended zones and a comfortable heating target using normal controls.
- Let the unit start normally. Heating may not produce warm airflow immediately. Refer to the model instructions instead of repeatedly restarting it.
- Observe the display and airflow. Note whether the room becomes comfortable and whether the controller shows a timer, schedule or fault message.
- Save a simple operating note. Record the mode and routine that worked, so other household members can use the same system without guessing.

Check the result
You should understand how to select heating and stop it normally. Mitsubishi Electric explains that HEAT and automatic changeover are different modes; check the behaviour of your own equipment rather than assuming they are interchangeable.
Stop and get professional help if needed
Stop testing if operation is abnormal, a fault repeats or there is a burning smell or indoor water leak. Do not use a circuit reset as a routine heating control or attempt to alter internal sensors.
A common question
Is AUTO always the same as HEAT?
No. Depending on the model, automatic changeover can select heating or cooling in response to conditions. If you want to understand a particular heating result, identify the selected mode first.
